Through a MoT decree, a global noise level has been fixed for each company operating Paris-Orly with chapter II aircraft. The year 98 traffic is the reference for calculating the global noise level for each concerned airlines operating chapter II aircraft. For the years coming, landing or taking off is forbidden as soon as the 98 noise level is reached by each airlines. Infringement may be prosecuted, and fines imposed up to 12.000 Euros(12.000$)

In the year 2001 there was a maximum of 440,000 commercial air traffic movements and in the year 2002 a maximum of 460,000 commercial air traffic movements was allowed. In 2003 these operating quota for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol have been replaced by another system with no specific limit on the annual number of movements but a total noise volume (TVG) for Lden and Lnight, and and maximum noise levels in 35 enforcement points Lden and 25 points Lnight. Declared capacity for Winter season 2004/2005 is 180.000 and for the Summer season 2005 270,000 movements.

The Swiss government agreed April 12th to place new noise limits on the country's largest airports. The new restrictions will apply to Zurich-Kloten, Geneva-Contain, Lugano and Bern. The new measure limits noise levels to a maximum of 65 decibels on the average in areas where residential housing, small businesses, and farms are located. A daily average of 70 decibels is fixed for industry areas near the affected airports. The maximum average for residential areas will be lowered to 57 decibels between the hours of 10pm-12am and 5am-6am. A ban on flights by particularly loud aircraft also will apply during these hours. A formal ban on flights between 12am and 5am will also be introduced for Zurich and Geneva; Lugano and Bern will have flights banned from 11pm to 6 am.

 In 2001 Swiss government issued new noise limits for the Swiss airports. The new restrictions apply to Zurich-Kloten, Geneva-Contain, Lugano and Bern. In residential areas the noise is limited to a yearly maximum of 60 decibels (Leq3) during daytime (6 a.m - 10 p.m.). In areas where residential housing, small businesses, and farms are located, noise is limited to 65 decibel. A daily average of 70 decibels is fixed for industry areas near the affected airports. At night (10pm-12am and 5am-6am) the maximum average for residential areas is set at 55 decibels.
